David has ministered in all aspects of church life. From Diocesan Lay Reader, Auxiliary priest (NSM), curate, vicar, canon and now archdeacon. Prior to entering the ministry, he worked in the business world as a bank official.
Ordained in 1986 he was appointed archdeacon in 2004 and holds a Master’s degree in Management and Leadership.
The archdeacon of Dublin, by virtue of his office is ex officio on many committees and boards and David has been elected to serve on numerous committees in the diocese of Dublin and central Church. He also sits on the boards of the Church of Ireland College of Education and St Patrick’s Cathedral.
He represents the Church of Ireland in the world of health care, politics and the church locally and nationally and has represented the archbishop on many public occasions. He currently serves on the boards of the Rotunda Hospital, Tallaght Hospital and has been chaplain at St James’s Hospital since 1992. He is also chaplain to An Garda Síochána, a position he has held since 2001.
In his spare time, David enjoys playing golf, painting, photography and walking his dog. He is married to Denise and they have four grown up daughters, Nicola (married to Daniel), Karen, Amanda (married to Brian) and Rachel.

Helen was baptised in All Saints’ and has been a lifelong parishioner. She undertook the Archbishop’s course in theology from 2009–10 and following on from that began Lay Ministry training. She was commissioned as a Parish Reader in 2012. After further study Helen was commissioned as a Diocesan Lay Reader in All Saints’ by Archbishop Michael Jackson on Palm Sunday, 2014. Gerard Downey BCL, BA, PhD is Organist and Director of Music of the Christ Church Cathedral Group of Parishes. Gerard is responsible for the music at all choral liturgies which take place in the Cathedral Parish and supervises the care and preservation of instruments in its constituent churches. An Entrance Scholar to Maynooth University, Gerard graduated in first position in his class with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with specialisation in performance. Having studied under Dr Cathal Breslin, Dr John O’Keeffe and Prof Gerard Gillen, he held the Organ Scholarship of Saint Patrick’s Pontifical College, Maynooth and also the Organ Scholarship of Saint Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Dublin. He has worked extensively within the Archdiocese of Dublin. Previously, as Organist of Saint Mary’s Church, Maynooth, in 2010 he founded and directed the ensemble Schola Augustiniensis which provided choral scholarships to four students of Maynooth University. In 2011 he was awarded first place in the Senior Organ Competition of the Feis Ceoil, named as the winner of the Fitzgerald Trophy and also awarded the Sister Catherine McAuley Perpetual Cup. He has participated in improvisation master classes under Ansgar Wallenhorst and Dom Columba McCann OSB.
While holding these various music appointments, Gerard has applied himself to the study of law having obtained his BCL in 2011 and took his doctorate from Trinity College Dublin in 2016.
